Tanner Dostie, 45, of Brunswick, appeared in court this week, charged with murder.

The name of the deceased has not been confirmed, but the police believe him to be 61-year-old Dennis Blasens, who is Dostie's neighbor.

Identifiying the victim is taking some time because there was not much evidence for the police to go on.

Maine Man Tells State Police He Killed His Neighbor and Burned the Body

The case began when Bath Police Officers were called to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting for a report of a disturbance.

When they arrived, Dostie allegedly began crawling across a church parking lot on his stomach, with a knife in his belt.

When he refused to comply with the officers, they used a stun gun on him 13 times.

WGME-TV reports Dostie then allegedly told authorities that he killed his neighbor to 'free his wife.' He said he stabbed the neighbor, chopped him up, and burned him in an outdoor fire pit.

Brunswick and Maine State Police went to Dostie's home and found blood inside and outside, as well as human bones in a fire pit.

According to court documents, officials say Dostie allegedly had been working on repairing a truck together, when he allegedly beat the victim with a baseball bat, and stabbed him several times, killing him.

Evidence suggests the victim died on Dostie's back deck before the suspect used a chainsaw to dismember him.

Dostie allegedly expressed remorse for what he did and told the police that he was high on drugs at the time.
