78-Year-Old Hampden, Maine Man Has Been Missing for Nearly a Month

The strange disappearance of Douglas Dunphy of Hampden continues to baffle authorities as they hunt for clues to his whereabouts.

Mr. Dunphy's family reported him missing in early January. Hampden Police asked for the public's help on January 16, as they worked to locate him.

Officials say Douglas Dunphy is a white male, 5'10" tall, 210 pounds, with green eyes and gray hair. He typically wears a black Carhartt jacket and a blue cap.

The mystery around his disappearance deepened when his white Econoline van was located, but there was no sign of Mr. Dunphy. Hampden Police are not releasing where the van was found.

Several Maine Agencies are Looking for Clues on a Missing Hampden Man's Property

Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss says the State Police and Maine Warden Service are now assisting the Hampden Police Department in searching Dunphy's property on the Kennebec Road in Hampden.

The operation that began on Tuesday is continuing today.

People are asked to avoid that area to prevent congestion, which could hamper the search.
