The Maine community of Brooklin is rallying around a family who suffered the loss of 16 dogs in a house fire.

No Humans Were Harmed in the Fire But 16 Dogs Died

Lori and Linda Cole were named by the Brooklin Volunteer Fire Company as the residents of the house that burned on Friday. When crews arrived, the fire was fully involved. Cold temperatures and wind made battling the fire challenging. WABI-TV reports that no humans were home at the time of the fire, so none were hurt, but sixteen dogs, as well as other pets, perished in the blaze. The State Fire Marshal's Office has been unable to determine how the fire started.

Community Members Are Fundraising to Help the Family Get Back on Their Feet

Now, the Brooklin community is stepping up to help Lori and Linda in their time of need, having lost not only their pets, but also their home and belongings. A GoFundMe page has been set up by a friend of Lori's to raise money to help the family start over. In addition, a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the Morning Moon restaurant in Brooklin. The dinner is planned for Saturday, from 4 to 7pm, with 100% of the proceeds to benefit the family.

Our Hearts Go Out to the Cole Family in Their Time of Grief

As a dedicated dog person, this story touched my soul. The loss of one furry family member is devastating so I can't imagine how their hearts must be breaking. My sincerest condolences to the Cole family.
