Country music legend Shania Twain will help fight food insecurity by donating 50,000 meals to Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine when she visits Bangor this summer to perform on the waterfront.

The donation from the Shania Twain Foundation was announced in a press release from the foundation on Monday.

According to the release, Twain is passionate about ending food insecurity in vulnerable communities.

The release says that food insecurity is at an all time high and donations to food banks have dropped drastically.

The singer and the foundation are donating to local food banks at every stop on her tour, which will come to the Maine Savings Amphitheater in Bangor on July 22.

When Twain visits Bangor, the Good Shepard Food Bank of Maine will receive a donation of $25,000, which the release says will provide meals for 50,000 people.

What Twain had to say about the donation

"At the Shania Twain Foundation, we believe everyone deserves access to nutritious food," Twain said in the release.

"These donations to the Good Shepard Food Bank of Maine will provide direct support throughout the state. We can make a meaningful impact across the country by helping to ensure that food banks are well stocked and, in turn, uplift people in every city we visit this summer."

What Good Shepherd Food Bank President Heather Paquette had to say about the donation

"The Shania Twain Foundation’s generous gift comes at a critical time. Hunger continues to rise in Maine, with 13.8% of Mainers, including one in five children, at risk of struggling to put food on the table," Heather Paquette, president of Good Shepherd Food Bank, said in the release.

"This support will help provide nutritious, culturally appropriate food to communities across the state and help support our bold vision of achieving food security for everyone in Maine. We are deeply grateful for this partnership and the positive impact it brings to children, families, and older adults throughout Maine."

The Shania Twain Foundation says it's dedicated to improving the lives of children and families facing poverty and food insecurity.

The foundation supports programs across North America that provide access to food, education, mental well-being and other essential resources for underserved communities, the release says.

The foundation says its goal is to develop strategic partnerships and provide funding and grants that will support under-resourced organizations in their efforts to lift the most vulnerable in their communities.
