A University of Maine professor will compete on "Jeopardy!" in May.

The university announced Thursday that Mainers will be able to watch Kara Peruccio compete on the game show at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2025.

The school says Peruccio is an assistant professor in both the Department of History and the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program.

Bangor viewers can watch Peruccio compete on WVII, Channel 7, and Portland viewers can tune in on WMTW, Channel 8.

"I grew up watching 'Jeopardy!' with my family," Peruccio said in a post on the university's website.

Peruccio says her twin sister Caitlin was a contestant back in 2013.

"After she got on, I was extra motivated to keep auditioning when I remembered to do it!"

According to Peruccio, this was her fourth attempt at getting on the show.

She says that right after she graduated in 2011, she was selected for the show but was unable to tape the show because she was teaching English in Turkey.

But after she auditioned in September 2024, she got a response.

“I almost missed the audition because the email went into my spam folder! Luckily, it all worked out."

Peruccio says she flew out to record the show in Los Angeles in March.
