Downeast Maine Should Prepare for Heavy Winds and Possible Power Outages

You should be prepared or heavy wind, lots of rain and possible power outages with the wind and rain storm that is beginning to impact Downeast Maine, Wednesday night to Thursday morning.

There is a High Wind Warning in effect for Downeast Maine from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday December 12th. There are potential wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour tonight.

There is a flood watch in effect through Thursday morning, with rainfall anywhere from 1.5 -2 inches expected.

The good news is that the weather on Thursday, should be favorable for line crews to be out making repairs if there are power outages.

The Maine Emergency Management Agency asks that you call 9-1-1 only if you are having an emergency. Do NOT call the to let them know you are without power.

If you are cold and without power, there is a Warming Center overnight in downtown Ellsworth.

Healthy Acadia at 24 Church Street in Ellsworth is open as a warming center serving people from Hancock and Washington counties. They are open seven nights a week from 4 pm to 6:30 am, December 1st through April 30th. The overnight warming center offers a safe, warm space for housing insecure community members in Hancock and Washington counties. Meals, snacks, and beverages are available.
