Boston's bats were sizzling on July 4th, rapping out 16 hits as the Red Sox beat the Washington Nationals on July 4th in the nation's capital.
Trevor Story led the way, going 4-5 with a 2-run homer in the 8th inning, driving in 4 runs batted in.
Jarren Duran was 2-5 with a double, and 3 runs batted in.
Roman Anthony was 2-3 with 2 walks.
Marcello Mayer, Abraham Toro, and Carlos Narvaez each had a pair of hits.
Ceddanne Rafaela had a double.
Every Red Sox starter with the exception of Wilyer Abreu had at least 1 hit.
Lucas Giolito was dominant on the mound against his former team. He went 7.2 innings, improving to 5-1 on the season and lowering his ERA to 3.66. He allowed just 1 run, striking out 7 and walking 3.
Justin Wilson recorded the final out in the 8th inning and Garrett Whitlock pitched the 9th inning allowing 2 hits and 1 run, striking out 1.
