The Boston Red Sox lost to the Kansas City Royals 2-1 in 12 innings on Friday, May 9th in Kansas City.

Prior to the game, owner John Henry, president Sam Kenney, and chief baseball officer Craig Breslow flew to KC to meet with manager Alex Cora and  Rafael Devers  after Devers  comments on Thursday that he would not play 1st base. Devers said Thursday

“They came to me and talked to me about it. I know I’m a ballplayer, but at the same time, they can’t expect me to play every single position out there. n spring training, they talked to me and basically told me to put away my glove. I wasn’t going to play another position other than DH. Right now, I don’t think it would be an appropriate decision by them to ask me to play another position.”

After the meeting and before the game Cora was quoted "Devers expressed his feelings. John (Henry) did the same. I think everybody saw who was here, so I thing that carries weight in the clubhouse."

On the field, the Red Sox lost in 12 innings 2-1. The game was scoreless after 9 innings and both teams scored in the 11th, before the Royals won it in the 12th inning.
