It's even gotten to the point that the City of Bangor has teamed up with some local outreach agencies to hire someone whose job it is to help safely collect and dispose of discarded needles.

Unfortunately, city sidewalks and playgrounds aren't the only places people are picking to throw out their needles.
The folks at the Brewer Redemption Center recently discovered needles in some of the returnables someone brought in.
This prompted them to create a new policy for such a situation.
They put this message out on their Facebook Page Wednesday.
"At our establishment, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our employees. Therefore, we politely ask that our patrons do not bring needles into our workspace. Any needles discovered in your can and bottle returns will result in stopping the count of your order and you will be asked not to return. We appreciate your cooperation in upholding our zero-tolerance policy."
If you live in the Bangor area, and come across discarded needles and would like some help disposing of them, you can contact the Health Equity Alliance.
If you discover needles in a public place, you can also contact the Bangor Police Department for guidance.
