Ashmore is a Girl Scout with Troop 1282 and is going out for her Bronze Award.
She says this is a very special award within the Girl Scouting Community.
"It’s the highest award that a girl scout junior can get. Its purpose is to get kids to think about their community."
Why did Ashmore choose to put together an event to promote volunteerism at the library?
"I chose it because sometime during school I did a fundraiser for my school, and it was with governors the restaurant and we got to be waiters and serve the people. And I thought that I could do that with the library and it sounded fun. I hope that with this event the library will get more youth volunteers."
"I think it’s important for others to get involved because if the kids volunteer now, they know if they like that job or not, so when they’re older, they know if they want to be say a librarian or not."
The Slime and Serve event is open to anyone from the age of 9 up to the age of 13. It will take place on a Friday, from 2 PM to 4 PM. And kids will not only be able to make some slime, which is super fun, but also learn all about what it would be like to volunteer at the library.

Ashmore says that while the Slime and Serve event is not the first volunteer event she's taken part in, it is the first one she has hosted.
She hopes lots of kids attend and get inspired to help out at the library.
